Is Dr. Dray actually AI?

Published · Watch on YouTube

U she makes a video every day. Yeah. Like this is what you want to see this type of scene. It's not impossible for AI to copy, but it's expensive. As you force AI to introduce variance, it makes more errors. Yeah. So video length is about 15 minutes. I'm testing this on Dr. Dre. One video a day is a ton, right?

uh 15 minutes on average. So these like are definitely like on the higher end of like what is possible I think for a person fatigue wise. Does the real person exist? Do they have a license to protect? Um so let's look here. Dermatologist. Uh that's a YouTube channel. She's got a a skincare website, Amazon page.

This is her Instagram. That's her real name. And Andrea Suarez MD PhD. Okay. She's a PhD. So that's pretty cool. uh maybe she's got some published research we can look at uh to validate. But there's a lot of information here. So it seems like this a a real person that exists, right? Do they have a license to protect presumably if they're claiming that um if they're claiming an NDP, there's going to be a license.

So they say medical license. We'll see if there's a source. She actually made a video about being board certified. Google says that there's an active uh license. Hopefully Google gives us the resource uh the source for the license. All right. Okay. Andreas Suarez probably need the real name might be giving us.

Okay. National provider identification number. Okay. So we we've got this is a person that has a license, right? We can convince ourselves that this is a real person and the YouTube channel is real just by looking at the channel. People should not have to do this much validation work. Uh I don't know in the if in the US that they have to.

So okay this question is does existing person have to show their work? Um I don't know if within the US a person actually have has to um uh talk about how they make the videos within their practice review. In the UK, you um a bunch of UK doctors have reached out to me and said that in the annual review that you have as a UK doctor, you have to talk about your practice or the whole scope of your practice, which should include YouTube videos because you're giving out medical advice.

So, you're supposed to talk about how you made those videos. I don't know if we have to do that in the US, but I wonder if there is a video uh where, you know, she's got like a cat or a dog coming in. I'm not sure if she's a cat or dog person. Maybe there I'm just going to look to see encountering a catman.

Okay. I was hoping to see like introducing my cat or introducing my dog. Um, okay. Maybe she talks about her pets here. Oh, okay. Looks like there's a dog there. Wondering if that's her dog. This seems like a relative. So, this is another, you know, you consider that another creature. And you've got people moving in the background.

This is on her own channel, so you don't have to look too far. The scene looks pretty full. Okay, we got dog, got bear, and then we got dog with person. I wonder if she's with the dog at some point. Okay, so feels doesn't feel Can't we donate this to some larger dog? Yeah, I just love it. I just love it, Mom.

Don't Don't you dare. Don't you dare get rid of it. Fresh velvet is all me. I just love my bed. Okay, I'll speed this up. Can we get rid of this? He's having he's having a temper tantrum. The idea of getting rid of having a temper tantrum. So, you can see the dog is moving a lot and there is no like there are no bugs.

The person's interacting with the dog. I don't think she gets in that frame. That's okay. You know, we have another person. So, I'll just tag that video with that time point. Doc, uh, with a relative or I'll just say another person. Does anybody know if she was on a popular podcast? Uh, Dr. Dre. This looks like might be something wants to Okay, I think this is her on the left and this is an inerson podcast.

Older women in a box. We're a big player. This is like so real. Pretty hard for ad to make like a an hour episode where how much to use you have people synchronizing and I already finished that cream you prescribed. Can you reacting live? I'm just going to post that link in my So I was really motivated to get online and just put that kind of information.

Ideally, you'd see them both in the same frame. So I'm just going to wait for that. Um I I saw it as well in a previous one but or in in a scroll but yeah like this is what you want to see this type of scene and you know in your work and it turns out that they're like the same things. It would be a lot of effort for AI to make that.

Okay, I want to share it at that specific time point. So 646 share at that one. Okay. Um, same frame. She shared her workout routine here. That's pretty cool. 7 years ago. I wonder if there's a recent one. H. We don't need a recent one. Let's just look at the older one. It's getting better. Hey guys, what's up?

It's actually kind of hot out today, believe it or not. I'm just sipping on a little rose water here. I I enjoy running, you know, fun runs. I am not particularly competitive. Uh, this is pretty This is pretty tough for y to make. Ideally, there'd be more people in the room, but I understand why she wouldn't have want to have more people in the room.

Privacy. Nobody wants to be filmed with other consent. Although that has changed a lot now [snorts] uh with just like filming, working out with his tripods in the gym, stuff like that. Not the consent part. People do want to consent. Okay. So, we've also got that exercise video and I'm going to share it specifically at that time point.

I say share it, but I'm going to share what we'll do. This one is like TSA hates cancer patient. Um I'm sure this like I'm sure there's an explanation there. Um but that's the idea of that video. Antique shops. Yeah. Yeah, I've seen that. So like shopping trips. Uh okay, but like this is not dermatology.

I see. Uh shopping trips to non- dermatology related things. That's pretty variant. Uh, some creators I'll say are are encouraged to stay on board or stay on topic. But if if I do see something that's super off topic, to me that's usually a sign that is human. [snorts] So what does it actually look like when a presumably real person uh according to one of my commenters uh we'll obviously test that, but I'm I'm fairly confident.

What does that actually look like? By having an extreme extremely productive person, a real person as a point of comparison, we can calibrate the test a little bit better. So, we'll start with the oldest stuff. Car, bathroom, and maybe mall at some point. Car, bathroom, bathroom, uh, living room. So, a lot of background changes, but you can also see a lot of camera movement.

I'm going to look at that. Oh, sorry. That's my list. Uh, camera movement. It's it's sort of hard for AI to do a lot of camera movement that's consistent because a lot of the data that is trained on is a very similar uh very normalized data. So like from Tik Tok uh you'll get a lot of like motion stabilized videos and you can just use that to inspire basically inspire or generate very similar videos with a different avatar or something like that.

uh to have that in in a long running video, it it'll be a little challenging. And just to clarify here with camera movement, I don't mean like changing the perspective of the camera like you're one shot, then you're another shot. That's just like you can just do that with the picture. I mean the actual camera moving on the person or in in the real world like you see in this video.

If you try to recreate something like that with AI, you'll end up introducing errors that don't make sense or sort of give away the fact that it's uh that would be AI generated. In this case, you know, we're going in with the assumption that this is not AI generated. Okay, you can you can see it here.

So, the camera was initially like yeah, that kind of thing. I'm just going to repeat that. So, initially we don't really see the door. We then we see a microwave a little bit. the camera is moving a lot and everything makes sense dermtore. com. So, I'm just going to put that with that tag to say that yeah, okay, there's a good amount of camera movement for this channel in especially older videos.

Pretty hard for AI to create a facial progression. I would expect a lot [clears throat] because this is a skincare channel. We can just probably look at the the older ones and then go to the newer ones and see how much it's over like what 9 years again. So, you'd expect a lot of facial progression uh or changes.

You know, recently I would say cons her face has been pretty consistent. Uh but obviously very different uh from what it was at at at the beginning of the channel start as people do progress in their looks or they do change. And even at this point from video to video you can see that uh the face does progress.

I'd like to be able to point out a specific feature, but right now I'm just getting like an overall this is different kind of vibe. I'm wondering if she talks about a blemish in any episode or something. I mean, surely she talks about them, but like one that she has. No, just blemishes in general. Yeah.

I mean, from video to video though, you can see that there is a lot of progression. I'm just I'm looking at the eyes here and you can some see some fatigue in some videos. In other ones, you look pretty pretty refreshed. And I was able to notice specifically just the eyes changing a little bit from video to video eight years ago.

Hey guys, welcome back here. I'm Dr. I'm board certified durologist. Today I'm talking about something I really surprised us myself included. It's just reality that we need to accept. A recent CC survey found that one third of the mic here. More than half of the adult survey reported that a recent sunburn occurred while they're wearing sunscreen.

The thing we've been told we need to wear to prevent from a sunburn. What they were wearing and they still got sunburn. First you may think well clearly suncreen doesn't work. I'm throwing the tail on that. uh lots of like realistic facial expressions or like micro expressions um possible for AI to generate but not free or not inexpensive.

You probably have to regenerate a bunch of times before getting micro expressions that look real. And it's like I probably should clarify what I mean by micro expressions. I'm throwing the towel in on that like that. Um you see her towel in on that. But that's not what these findings mean. Sunscreen absolutely works.

The issue sunscreen is you may think, well, clearly sunscreen doesn't work. I'm I'm I'm throwing the towel in on that. Like when she says I'm throwing the towel on that, her face correspondingly moves. What's what's interesting or like good about this video that might be subtle is that her hands keep going in and out of the frame.

So just like here exposure is a wellestablished cause of skinare and that's important because it's a bit hard for AI to like manage that because once you get something out of the frame it's no longer managing where it should go and so muscle movement might not correspond to what's happening outside the frame. UV exposure is a wellestablished cause of skin cancers. Every sunburn contributes.

And if you pay attention, the muscle movement should correspond to the hand movement as it goes along. I've seen some AI YouTube doctors where it hasn't. So, for example, um their hand will would flip. But here, I'm just going to like show you what why I say that. So, so their their hand will go out of frame.

Okay. I'm just making my my thing large to make a point. And then it'll come back like this. So flips, but you don't see any bicep movement. Your biceps are supposed to move when you flip your hand. So these are subtle things like once my hand is out of frame. Yeah, I should be managing that. And like basically it was like that.

So it made an error. Anyways, subtle things but does help. Emotional emotional range on here quick. It's kind of hard to pick up the the emotion. That's what the bottle says. But if you're only applying a thin thin amount, especially if it's patchy. So, you know, this is instructional. At the beginning, it was a bit frustrated.

What they were wear and maybe playful set up for sunburn alcohol. Let's talk there. I just went a little bit sad or bummed out. Responsibility you have, the less time you have to engage in fun. That's what it boils down to. You don't have as playful here. very subtle but um that that is something that I look for because it's again it's hard for AI to replicate without hallucinating some things that are inconsistent.

So it's just a subtle smile here. Fine. That's what it boils down to. You don't have as much disposable income anymore. U maybe although these days the economy I get it. Uh disposable income is not something anybody really has. But um you know the older you get is not something anybody really has. the less time you have to engage in fun.

That's what it boils. Yeah. Like the less time you have to engage in fun. And she goes on a small tangent about the economy shade and ideally you're not out in peak sun time. You one of those people like a skeptical emotion here. So there's a lot of emotional range within this talking head video. We had uh frustrated, sad, analytical, neutral, skeptical, playful.

So very wide range of emotion. And so the AI can't do that, but if it when it does do that, it hallucinates and it los it it produces errors and that means it's expensive to generate that at scale. Do us doctors have to talk about video creation process in some sort of recurring audit? That's the question there.
